With over 20 inches of new powder on the mountain from this week’s storm, many Denverites are making their way up to the mountains to hit the slopes. Luckily, the Winter Park Express Train makes it debut return tomorrow!
This historic train trip originated in 1912, with the last train between Denver and Winter Park ending operations in 2009 due to regulations and cost. Thanks to Amtrak and Winter Park, the train is making an overdue return, and eager skiers and snowboarders alike couldn’t be happier.
The Amtrak train, which can accommodate 500+ passengers, will connect from Union Station to Winter Park Resort; saving many people who are eager to get to the mountain from the headache of sitting in traffic on the already congested mountain roads. The two-hour trip will run on Saturdays and Sundays, between January 7th and March 27th, with additional rides scheduled on observed holidays.
For those interested in the ease of this scenic ride, the train will depart from Union Station at 7am, and leave Winter Park at 4:30pm. One-way tickets start at $39 and have been booking up quick!
So go ahead and plan a ski day or weekend to Winter Park Resort, knowing you won’t have to endure the usual back-ups and delays that we’ve all come to know so well on I-70. Relax, enjoy the scenery, and take the ride!
