The Official Guide Book On What To Do And Where To Go™

Summer Activities in Winter Park

The outdoors is your playground in Grand Lake. Thrill seekers go mountain biking or white water rafting while those wishing to relax fish in a mountain stream, sleep under the stars or go boating on an alpine lake. Hundreds of miles of trails await hikers and horseback riders. You don’t want to miss out on the summertime activities at Winter Park!

Adventure Activities

Get your pulse racing and satisfy your need for speed:

  • Go biking – The Fraser Valley is home to more than 600 miles of mountain bike trails, with terrain ranging from novice to expert, cross-country to downhill. Road cyclists also have plenty of scenic routes and rides to choose from too!
  • Go white-water rafting – After it snows, snows, snows, the snowmelt brings the rivers alive. Take a white-knuckled, adrenalin-charged rafting trip down Clear Creek or a gentle float down the Colorado River the whole family can enjoy.

Things to Do Outdoors

Slow down and escape to nature:

  • Go hiking – Hike trails nearly two miles above sea level, with elevations topping out at more than 13,000 feet. Discover waterfalls and explore mountain lakes at the end of winding mountain trails.
  • Go horseback riding – Nurture your inner cowboy on the back of a horse. What a better way to explore mountain meadows and trail than on horseback.
  • Go camping – Spend the night under the stars. Get away from it all by camping in many of the campgrounds and camp sites in Grand County.
  • Go fishing – Throw a line in the river and catch breakfast. The Fraser River is popular for fly-fishing while the Colorado River from Granby downstream to Troublesome Creek contains some of the best trout fishing in the state.

Family Activities

Winter Park means fun for the entire family:

  • Go golfing – Play miniature or disc golf, or walk the traditional 18 holes on a classic mountain course.
  • Go zip lining – Soar through treetops and zoom over the meadows on a zipline, some as long as 1,600ft. Ride Colorado’s longest alpine slide at Winter Park Resort and, afterwards, solve the maze.
  • Go on a picnic – Have a family picnic at Hideaway Park, the Old Schoolhouse in Fraser or the Fraser Sports Complex.
  • Go to Rocky Mountain National Park – Learn about nature and animals at Rocky Mountain National Park. Kids can become a Junior Ranger.
  • Go fishing – Fish at the Lions Club Fishing Ponds in Fraser. The upper pond is devoted to kids and disabled anglers.

Cultural Activities

Embrace the culture and traditions of Grand County:

  • Go to the rodeo – The best amateur and professional cowboys and cowgirls compete at the High Country Stampede Rodeo. After watching the competition eat an old-fashioned western BBQ.
  • Go to the theatre – Experience live theatre at the 297-seat Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre in downtown Grand Lake. In its fourth decade, the theatre produces professional plays and award-winning musicals.
  • Go to a festival – Listen to live local, regional and national music acts in outdoor venues throughout the valley. The Annual Winter Park Jazz Festival is a highlight of the summer and one of the premier music festivals in Colorado.
