The Official Guide Book On What To Do And Where To Go™

Winter Fun Without Hitting the Slopes

With an annual average snowfall of 40”, it is no surprise where Winter Park got its name. The good news is, even if you’re not a skier, you will find a surplus of activities that will get you playing in The Park- and beyond. In fact, there are so many things to do for the non-alpine skier that your friends hitting the slopes may just take a break to join you!

Here are a few of our favorite things to do:

Fat Biking

The latest winter rage to gain popularity among the active Colorado population is fat biking. Like mountain bikes, a fat bike is an off-road bike, however it has oversized tires, typically 3.8in or larger, and rims 2.6in or wider. The tires are designed for low surface pressure to allow riding on soft, unstable terrain such as snow. The hundreds of miles of Arapaho National Forest service road that are utilized by snowmobiles in the winter are a great place to test your stamina and skills. For rentals and maps stop by Icebox Mountain Sports, or Beaver’s Sports Shop.

Sleigh Bells Ring

Enjoy this timeless pastime as you gain a different perspective on the majestic Rocky Mountains that surround the Fraser Valley. Sombrero Stables at Snow Mountain Ranch YMCA of the Rockies and Cabin Creek Stables at Devil’s Thumb Ranch Resort and Spa both offer hot chocolate rides and dinner rides.

Overnight in a Backcountry Hut

A short 1.2 mile ascent with a vigorous 1,000ft elevation gain brings you to the Broome Hut, a well appointed “hut” that can sleep up to 16 people. Or simply check out the day use side of the hut.

Lunar Powered

Ski or snowshoe under the brilliance of a full moon in the Colorado Rockies. Grand Lake Nordic Center offers tours/rentals, as does Pole Creek Golf Club. If you prefer going on your own, rent skis and pick up a headlamp at Icebox Mountain Sports.

Snow Tubing

Embrace your inner child by rushing down a snow packed hill on an inner tube. You will find this fun-filled activity offered in Fraser at the Colorado Adventure Park, at Coca-Cola Tubing at Winter Park Resort, as well as at Snow Mountain Ranch, YMCA of the Rockies.

Get your Motor’s Running

See what the buzz is about by sitting aboard a snowmobile as you watch the snow covered landscape whiz by. Guided or self- guided tours are available through Grand Adventures.

It’s a Dogs Life

Dog-sledding is a thrilling and entertaining way to spend a morning or afternoon. Traveling behind the mushers and dogs is like taking a magic carpet ride to the rhythm of the dogs’ paws along the trail. Book an adventure by contacting Dog Sled Rides of Winter Park, or Snow Mountain Ranch.

Spa, Sip and Roll

Pamper yourself head to toe with the talented array of expert body-workers and aestheticians we have in our small, mountain town. Blue Sky Massage and Skincare specialists have been at it since 1999. Bella Vita Mountain Day Spa & Gifts is a great relaxing environment, or head out to Ranch Creek Spa at Devil’s Thumb Ranch for a day of self-spoiled enjoyment.

After your self-care, have some fun at the Foundry, Winter Park’s only luxury bowling alley; equipped with a movie theater, and a bar with food, including delicious wood fired pizzas.

Taking it to the streets in Winter Park/Fraser can be as much fun as taking yourself to the slopes. Explore the multitude of activities, unique shops, restaurants, and cafes while living like a local!
