Who We Are

We Are Adventurers

Having fun is part of our job. We hike, bike, paddle, ski, camp, golf, hammock, play and live at high altitude. But while we are a fun-loving team of adventurers, outdoor enthusiasts and lovers of nature, we know that publishing guidebooks also requires us to be professionals sometimes so that we can put our love for what we do into a format that others can follow.

We Are Experts

It takes a village, and at GuestGuide Publications we have just that. We are a dynamic team of spreadsheet queens, barrel-racing rodeo girls and former Sweethearts. We have hyphen police, apostrophe perfectionists and expert journalists with various English and grammar degrees. We have hip bloggers and talented, creative graphic designers. We have an SEO person who makes all our heads spin. Everyone has so many different talents they bring to GuestGuide. But the main driving force of our team is that we all love what we do and we want others to enjoy their adventures as well.

We Are Locals

We live where you vacation, so we have the distinct advantage of understanding tourist destinations. We use, and are very thankful for, the help of local experts and volunteers who are eager to give us much needed advice, opinions and time. If you want the most relevant tips, tricks & trail advice you can find, our GuestGuide experts can help you find it!

We Are GuestGuide Publications

GuestGuide Publications was started in 1995 by Susie and Helen Masterson. It began with a chance meeting in a bar and a discussion between two ski instructors (one now the publisher) about guidebooks and photography. Helen (aka Mom and the Editor-in-Chief) worked as a writer and public relations specialist for years writing about tourism. It seemed like a good fit. Now, 20 years later, we have published just over 100 guidebooks totaling more than 17,690,000 copies! Our publications are designed to reach a variety of audiences, from the young to the young at heart.

We Are Your Source for FUN

Whether you read the blogs and tips on our website, or pick up one of our guidebooks while visiting one of the amazing towns we publish guidebooks for, we hope you enjoy it as much as we do putting it together.

Have some feedback? We would love to hear it! Our books have grown and improved because of our readers, so please, share your GuestGuide ideas and experiences with us!

In Loving Memory

See it, Believe it!

At GuestGuide Publications, we like to see (and be!) real people having real fun, which is why all of our images are moments captured, never staged. We like to be in the right place at the right time, not on schedule. If you see it here, you can do it there!

With the beauty of Rocky Mountain National Park literally on his doorstep, Erik Stensland rises frequently long before dawn to hike back to remote lakes or up high peaks to capture the unparalleled beauty of the Park in warm morning light. He is also developing photographic collections from the Desert Southwest, the Pacific Northwest, as well as from the United Kingdom. His work has been featured in dozens of art shows, in the rotunda of the Colorado state capital and in numerous galleries. jeff-russell

Jeff Russell developed a passion for the outdoors and photography shooting whitewater photos for rafting companies in his native state of Maine. He brought that enthusiasm to Colorado in 1989, and finally to Grand county in 1996 where the mountains provide inspiration on a daily basis. “I look for that unique perspective, and the quality of light that combine to tell a story in a dramatic way. I love to shoot mountains, rivers, the natural world and people taking part in exploring there, especially when it expresses a passion for life and demonstrates a value of the environment”.

Randy Parietti, Photographer

Raised in Colorado, attended the Art Institute of Colorado and all around nice guy. If i’m not creating images, you may see me on my motorcycle or playing hockey. Randy Parietti Photography

Susie Masterson, Publisher, GuestGuide Publications

Susie Masterson has been enjoying the wilderness and photography most of her life. To her, the most wonderful images come when the beauty of a wilderness experience is forever captured “on film”. She has a line of note cards from Colorado and Minnesota’s Boundary Waters. Her stock photography has been used in advertisements and GuestGuide Publications many publications.
